Broadband –As it dates back!

By rinni

Broadband technology has revolutionarised the world on netizens, from cumbersome dialups to always on type connection, surfing has come of age.

Broadband as a concept is a sophisticated piece of technology that facilitates high speed data to get transferred from one network PC to the other. With the kind of high speed net access, it has given way to high end applications and practices online, from technologies like VoIP, facilitating calls over the internet to live video sharing and much more.

Broadband internet connections come in a variety of packages, depending upon the requirement of the user.
Broad band internet which means internet facility, through a broadband cable, basically runs back in years; when a network engineer geared up with a system to use the available frequency spectrum that lay in the twisted pair cable that ran between the premises of the telephone subscriber and the company, to carry out digital signals.

It basically meant optimization of the prevalent phone lines, to help in transferring multiple packets of information from with in. That is , the same phone line which carried out telephonic voice signals , could be used to its optimum and therefore it would facilitate flow of data pockets that too at high speed.

Phone companies were reluctant to adopt this technology since, it did not interest them
Because the profits they presumed would be minimal. Since no major purchase or installation were required , except for a splitter and modem they were convinced of not gaining much out of such a scheme and therefore they downplayed on broadband for some time.

Although today ADSL and DSL type connections provided by phone companies is one of the most popular way of logging on to the net.

In the 1990`s, cable TV operators ventured into the field of broadband technology, but with a slight difference. Since they did not have the privilege of existing phone lines etc. how they managed to provide broadband internet access, was with a little difference.

Cable operators launched a server computer that had internet access and, joined several other network computers to its port. These connections have reached our homes through cable wires, specially designed to carry out broadband services. These are often known as coaxial cables too.

Cable broadband does not require a modem to be installed or a splitter. The service provider reaches your terminal through cable wire, which is linked to others consumers through a hub. Cable internet is an always on type of broadband internet connection and similar to ADSL and DSL is sensitive to distance.

Today, broadband has out done dialups in a very big way. The simplest way to connect as most of us feel, is through ADSL and Cable connections .On the other hand DSL lies popular with corporate connections
